MIA

Wow! It's been a LONG time since I blogged!!! Sure hope that I can come back more often. I'll try to shorten the events that had happened since May of last year....

  • Rediscover the fibroid that was causing heavy bleeding whenever I had my period.
  • Parents visited, went for a wonderful vacation at the sand dunes, Wildlife Safari and Crater Lake.
  • Had a laparoscopic hysterectomy....and so thankful to have my mom here to take care of me and my family.
  • Lucas got into the waiting list to see Dr. Freeman (child behaviorist at OHSU)
  • Kids going back to school. So happy with the teacher Yesmin has this year!
  • Coping with 4th grade homework!!! What a HUGE change!!
  • Kids birthdays...so thankful for my friends who came and helped!
  • Husband's first birthday party in God knows how many years! So thankful he came home from business trip, just in time for his birthday, which happens so to fall on a Saturday!!
  • Took a last minute winter break vacation. Our first time not celebrating Christmas at home...but a WHITE Christmas for sure.
  • Yesmin's skiing has improved so much that she's going on the "half pipe" and her instructor said she is ready to go to the higher lift!!! ---- NNNNOOOOOOO!!!!
  • After having kids, this is the first time for us to stay pass midnight...and at a friend's house. The kids did too!! Very sleepy, but it was very fun!
  • I have picked up a new hobby!!! Needle felting!!! Thanks to my friend, Christy! :P Hope to have a store on Etsy soon.
There's the summary of my interesting life in the past 8 months. Hope you had a wonderful 8 months too!!!

I Met A Skateboarder

If you live in Beaverton/Tigard area, you'd know how busy Hall Blvd is (2 lanes on each side plus the common lane in the middle), and so often I see parents/adults, and especially the ones with kids riding their bikes (there's a walking trail on both sides of the road) trying to cross THAT street, without walking the extra 30-50 feet to the traffic lights, where it is WAY more safe for them, and even worst, sometimes I see them doing that during the busiest hour. I mean, seriously, what the heck are they thinking???

Anyway, about 20 minutes ago, I was driving Yesmin to her animation class in Conestoga Rec Center. All of a sudden, I saw a teenager, with a skateboard, with long and messy hair, a cap turned to the back, with his pants hanging on his butt, showing his boxer, and, standing at the crosswalk, waiting, I mean, he was really at the crosswalk, waiting to cross. I'm sorry to say this, but I admit I am one of those people who often judge a book by its cover... Anyway, when I saw him, I stopped and let him cross, and he wave a friendly "thank you" to me, and I gave him nod and a wave back. But what I really SHOULD have done, when even some adults, and some parents with KIDS who would rather take the risk than to walk that extra 30-50 steps, on a busy street, was to wind down the window and tell him this "THANK YOU for using the crosswalk!!!"

Susan Boyle

Ok, I've got no clue as to HOW to post a YouTube clip here...but, I just wanna share with those of you who haven't discover Susan Boyle! Click on the link, and watch it...you will need some tissue paper. I am so glad to hear that Simon Cowell is already in line to sign her up (I guess, if she "doesn't" win the British Got Talent Show). Thank goodness for her gut, if not, the whole world would missed out on her amazing, and beauiful voice!

You go girl! :)

Pretty, pretty, pretty!!

I was at Party Depot yesterday to pick up some clear plastic cups for a dessert I'll be making and saw these set of PRETTY plates and napkins! Don't you agree they are gorgeous?? All of my favorite colors together! Not one speck of purple in it! ;P Nah, that's not really the reason. Just that I LOVE the combination of the brown, with that tone of blue, pink and orange! Will have to invite the ladies over next week! :) By the way, the best thing is that the whole set is 50% off! :)

Remembering 2008 - yes, yes, it's WAY over due! :P

This, as you know, is an extremely belated post. I was gonna abandon it...but, there are things that I feel like, though they weren't some happy news that I would wished for, still, I'd like to take the time to remember them...so, this was what I wrote, before the year 2009 began!

"I still can't believe the year is coming to the end. Seriously, I'm in some ways, not ready for 2009, because I still have a long list of things that I haven't got done (as usual). But on the other hand, I am looking forward to 2009...

2008 started with a horrible, horrible news I got from a friend back in Malaysia. One of our college friends (back in Metropolitan College days), Edwin Lee, was killed in a motorbike accident. He was only one year younger than I am. Thought we didn't hung out outside of college, we were the "Chor Tai Ti" (sort of like a Chinese poker game (??)) "gang" who used to hang out at the end of the cafeteria. As Nd (Lee) has remembered that it was Edwin who came to him and asked if he wanted to perform/form a band. I remembered him as one of those guys who would take care of his friends. That was in January.

Then came February. One of the neighbors I am closest to, lost her dad to cancer. We already knew he was diagnosed with cancer the year before. He was very upbeat, no matter what the side effects he gets from the chemotherapy, he always stayed positive.

Then came May. Another friend back home, sadly lost his new born daughter, Seraphine, to Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia. This, especially hit me real hard as a parent. Seraphine was 2 days old.

At the end of July, few weeks after we send our passports to the embassy for renewal (which takes up to 4 months to process), Nd's (Lee) lost his maternal grandma due to old age. I met her a couple of times. She reminded me of my paternal grandma. She wore kebaya, and she was the very easy going type of person. I think I did gave her a good impression when I first met her while Nd (Lee) and I were dating! :) I am glad that our kids got to meet her the last time we were back...she couldn't stop giving them kisses! :)

Then in October, we got another news from Malaysia, another college friend (we attended Inti College and U. of Kentucky together), Ben Tan, whom we went out to dinner with when we last went home, passed away due to thyroid cancer...he was also only one year younger than I am. Ben was one of those that would not hold back what he wanna say. The last time we saw him at the dinner, he was recovering from surgery to his throat. He could barely talk, but still, he made sure to tell me that I have gain weight! :P THAT, is Ben.

These are the type of news I am so done with!! I have never, never, ever lost so many friends/family in just one year! I didn't want any more of this sort of heart breaking news...I can't deal with another one... NO, not this year...no more please....

Oh, and in between all of that, a good friend that I have grown to depend on (you know who YOU ARE ;P ) moved back to her home state, some 6 hours away!

On the lighter side of 2008...

Before the school year ended, I was so worried what I was going to do with the 2 kids staying at home all day for almost 3 months. I was so sure they were going to rip each other apart. However, they proof me wrong. The first 2 months of Summer holidays, they have spent so much time playing together. They actually got along so well, I was in shocked! But of course, good things don't last long...by the end of 2nd month, they started arguing, and getting on each others nerves. Well, at least, that further proof to me that they ARE, after all, SIBLINGS! :)

Yesmin has been improving in her Chinese class. I discover that whenever I am working with her on her Chinese lessons, she's tired and sleepy...I used to yelled at her for not listening...then I discover that making her run around the house a couple of times, wakes her up! She liked it because it wasn't a "punishment"...in fact, she finds it fun and is more alert after the running to stay focus! She even scored 100% twice in her quiz and mid term! We reward here with $1 for each test, and allowed her to pick where she wanted to go for dinner. :)

Lucas was finally fully potty trained (refer to my older post on potty training)!!

I kept my words... on Christmas day,I made sure we took time out as a whole family, went across the street to visit our elderly couple neighbor. Since we were snowed in those couple of days, we weren't even sure if we were gonna have a special dinner for Christmas. I invited them to come over for dinner on Christmas (some other neighbors also invited them). It was their first time after having their 1st child some 50 something years ago, they will be celebrating by themselves! None of the kids could come here and they can't get out either! They declined, cos' one of their sons had ordered a beef shank online, and they were gonna have that. But I know, and I can tell that they were feeling lonely...I told myself that WE gotta go over and visit with them...visiting doesn't have to be eating a meal together. It made me feel really good, when I hear how excited they were to see us. =)

Other than that, I think everything else was pretty much the same...and I am just thankful that everyone is healthy, with just some cough and cold now and then, and that Nd (Lee) still has his job (there are lay offs every where)."

So, there it is --- my post for the year 2008!!! Phew...*wiping my sweaty forehead* :P

Shoe Size

When I first came to U.S. in 1996, I was wearing size 5.5 to 6. Twelve years, 2 kids and some extra 30 over pounds later, I am wearing size 7.5 to 8!!! Mind you, I am only 5ft 2 --- kinda like Mini Mouse - tiny with BIG FEET!

Anyway, we're planning to go skiing at White Pass, WA on Spring Break. We went there last year and loved it. My neighbor had given me a pair of her daughter's snow boots years ago, but it's insulation is starting to wear off. So, I decided to go hunt for a new pair now, since most of them should be on some sort of discount (end of season sales). I was at Joe's the past weekend. Choices and sizes are limited by now. I found a pair that was my size, but the price was $96! I looked around at the kid's section, and found this pair ---

--- looks better than the adult one and it's $64! I looked for the largest size they have, which is youth size 6. I cross my fingers that I'd fit. I asked the sales rep for a pair of ski socks to try on...and woohooo! My BIG FEET still fit in KIDDY size!!! Hoooray, I NEVER thought I can still wear the youth size! From now on, I will have to always consider shopping at the youth's isles when buying shoes...u know how much I can save???!!

Hoppy Burpday to ME!!! ;)

34 years ago, sometime in the middle of the night, I was born!! Seems like all my dad remembered was that he was VERY HUNGRY! :P He went to the "Bak Kut Teh" store across the street and managed to have the LAST bowl of it! As for my mom, she remembers that through out the whole pregnancy with me, I was PICKY, PICKY, PICKY! She couldn't drink milk, couldn't not eat any fruits, worst of all, all she craved for was Hokkian Char--- no wonder I have HORRIBLE teeth!!! :P

This year, I almost forgot about my birthday until my neighbor asked me what I was gonna do on my b-day a week before! I then quickly reminded my husband, knowing he'd forget too! :P I gotta say that I really enjoyed my birthday this year. Last year's birthday was miserable! I remembered clearly, Lucas was sick, I was recovering from a cough & cold, on top of the allergy, and I was teaching the after school cake decorating club! Aii ya-ya. I don't think I even made myself a birthday "dessert." 3 years ago, I decided that I didn't want Nd(Lee) to buy me a cake anymore (unless I'm sick and not up for making anything) ...as we are not exactly cake lovers, plus the store bought cakes are usually too sweet for us. Instead, I make dessert that I like best...or in the mood for. Same for Nd(Lee)...no more birthday cakes. This year, I chose to make myself Birthday tartlets.

I am so lucky to have friends to celebrate with me too!!! We were struggling to come up with a time where everyone was available for lunch... so I decided to have everyone come over to my place and P-A-R-T-Y!!! ;) They brought lunch & snacks over, and we all ate, and ate, and ate, and yak, and yak, and yak...while Zack and Lucas played happily with the Thomas and friends the other room. I definitely had a GGGGREAT time with the ladies! Silly Diana wanted me to be "princess of the day"...she even went and bought that princess napkins!!! Ya right, I am SUCH a princess! :P hahhahaa....She's just so sweet! We "partied" the "Mommy" style until the older kids got off from school! It was a really really fun day!

Nd (Lee) actually managed to get off work early...I was gonna make frozen ravioli for dinner, and he called and asked what I wanted for dinner. We end up having carry out from Chipotle for dinner and sang Happy Birthday song. Lucas just gobble up the tartlet (he only wanted raspberry and the tangerin on his, picky, picky, picky...wonder like WHO?!), while Yesmin, SLOWLY savor hers --- taking little bites!

Like I said, knowing he'd forget my birthday, I bet he bought my present LAST minute! ;) While we set up dinner, Nd(Lee) was scrabbling to "wrap" my present! :P Poor guy! I told him to just forget wraping it and save a tree! ;P He (and the kids) got me a Wii Fit!!! Wooohhooo! However, I have to say...I have developed a love-hate relationship with it! Arrgghhh! :P

Lastly, I just wanna say that I am very, very, very lucky to have so many great friends and great family! :) THANKS, U ALL!!! xoxoxoxxo...

#6 and #6 Photo Meme

I was tag a few days ago by Alice....while I was still in my mental vacation, which I will get to it SOON :) Thank God, this isn't one of those list of questions that you have to answer...so here it what you gotta do...

***Rules***
1. Go to your Picture Folder on your computer or wherever you store your pictures.
2. Go to the 6th Folder and then pick the 6th Picture.
3. Post it on your bloggy and tell the story that goes with the picture.
4. Tag 5 other glorious peoples to do the same thing and leave a comment on their bloggy tellin’ them ’bout it.

Unfortunately, there's only ONE photo in my 6th photo album!! So, this is it....

We were attending the Portland Chinese School Chinese New Year carnival back in 2008. It was kind difficult to take their photo during that time...cos' all they wanted to do is touch the inflated fellow! :P The carnival was to raise money for the school/class and to celebrate Chinese New Year, of course. There were games run by each class and food from some where (I don't remember the name). The good is just ok...not that great really. The both had fun though. :)

Now the 5 lucky people that I'm suppose to tag...
  1. Binky
  2. Growing up with Little Guy and Emmy
  3. Smartie Pants
  4. Mama Llama
  5. Home Sweet Home
Have fun!! :)

Doctors and Dentist

I knew I had to find a dentist soon, but I have been putting it off. I didn't like my previous dentist, cos' he and his assistant screw up one of my visit BIG TIME, though he has been very good at what he does the other times...but when it comes to medical and dental, once u screw up, that is it! On Saturday, I tooth started aching again, and this time it was really bad. I know I'm gonna be needing a root canal...I'm almost an expert of root canal and crowing by now. I probably have 4-5 crowning, 3-4 root canal! I'm every dentist's dream patient for this reason! By today, the aching has moved to another tooth...I am fearing that I might need two root canal now! That would definitely go way off the $1500 of what the insurance would pay! Sometimes I wonder if I should just get denture for the whole mouth instead to save some money! ;P By the way, a couple of friends and neighbor have recommended me their dentists...unfortunately non of them are in the network! So, I'm just gonna try my luck in picking a dentist! Wish me luck.

Besides that problem, Yesmin is home sick today. She started having fever and cough yesterday. Many kids and teacher have gone home sick in her school. I hope that it's just a common bug that she is getting. That poor child...she's usually so hyper and full of energy. Now, all she wants to do is sit or lay around. Yet, Lucas isn't leaving her in peace. When she's taking a nap, he tries to bring her toys and stuff! :)

Lucky You - by KT

Ok, I didn't even finish reading my friend's blog, and I jumped into it...who doesn't wanna win a prize from this creative person right?? Didn't know I have to make the same offer to the first 5 people who reply!!! *smacking my forehead* Oh well, it's still all good...it's a good way to make me MAKE something, it's a good way to pass it forward too! Here's what Ms. KT has to say...

Lucky you!

The first five people to respond to this post will get something made by me!

My choice. For you.

This offer does have some restrictions and limitations:

1- I make no guarantees that you will like what I make!

2- What I create will be just for you.

3- It'll be done this year. (might be a little while)

4- You have no clue what it's going to be. It might be homemade cards, framed photo that I took, place mats, some small, some large, maybe even a scrapbook. I may bake you something and mail it to you.

Who knows? Not you, that's for sure!

5- I reserve the right to do something extremely strange.

Don't worry, my imagination is not the great!

The catch? Oh, the catch is that you must repost this on your blog and offer the same to the first 5 people who do the same on your blog. The first 5 people to do so and leave a comment telling me they did will win a homemade gift by me! Oh, and be sure to post a picture of what you win when you get it!

So....who will be the first 5 people?????

I Have a Serious Problem!!!

Every night (especially weekday), after the kids go to bed, Lee and I usually watch out 10 o'clock show on TV --- Heroes (on 9 o'clock actually) on Mondays, our current 10 o'clock show to watch on Mondays is ABC's True Beauty, Law and Order SVU on Tuesdays, Law and Order on Wednesdays, and ER on Thursday.
After that, there should be no reason for me NOT to go to bed...yet, I am here typing my post! It's as though I have this feeling that I now have the "FREEDOM" to do stuff (mainly online) without ANY interruption...even thought I know I should be in bed, so that I will be awake in time in the morning, and that I won't be crabby in the afternoon. It is this addiction, I think, the addicition to stay awake, to grab every minute of silence, the addiction to stay online, to be connected with others...when I can go work on my sewing projects, or scrapbooking, or card making, or making some buns/bread instead.
Hrmp...looks like I have (another) serious problem that needs to be fixed! ---good night ;P

Where did the TIME go????

*scratching my forehead* ....I am seriously wondering HOW did the time past by SO QUICKLY??? I mean, it's already FEBRUARY!! Didn't we just celebrated Thanksgiving, and Christmas, and New Year....and then Chinese New Year??? Seriously, I am STILL working on my "Remembering 2008" post! And believe it or not, I still owe 3 friends CHRISTMAS presents, and one of them will be celebrating her birthday in just a couple of days!!! Aarrrhhhhgggg!! I really wish I am Hiro in the NBC Heroes...where I can stop time, and travel IN time, or maybe I should wish that I'm an octopus --- but then I'd need a bigger brain to coordinate the 8 hands that would be multi-tasking??!!! Haii ya ya... I seriously am in deep sh%#!!!! :P

It's driving me CRAZY!!!!

No, no, it's not my kids nor my husband....but it is this blog site that is written in Chinese, that has ABSOLUTELY the most delicious looking bread. See it for yourselves here. Unlike the European style with the crunchy crust, this is the Asian style with the soft and light kinda bread. Though I know how to read some Chinese, but my level isn't good enough to read and understand what he/she is saying! I have asked for translation but have no reply. I have also ask a Taiwanese friend to translate, but she is unable to translate 100% as she too doesn't understand some of the ingredients!!! Arrrghhhh!! I am looking at those bread, and droooling!! When I can learn how to make this bread??? It's almost flooding here with my drool, HELP!!!! :/

List of things I need to do...

Have u ever feel like the list of things u need to do goes on and on and on?? I feel that ALL THE TIME that I don't even know where to start first! :(

Here's my list, in no particular order (that's y I can't put priority on what comes first!!!)...
*Clean, clear and organize my closet.

*Clean, clear and organize my room! (yes, one room is cleaned and cleared, while the other one is a mess...it's like a cycle...round and round it goes)

*Clean, clear and organize ALL of my pantries/fridge (talking about this makes me wanna pull my hair out. Guess y?! Cos besides having a deep pantry where I cannot see what's creeping behind there, when my DARLING husband tries to find his tea, or get the coffee out, where he has to move some things around, just CANNOT find the afford to place THOSE things that he moved back to where they belong!!! I can always tell that HE has been through the pantry!!!Aaarrggh!!! =P)

*Sew the stuff I bought the fabrics for (yes, I bought fabric even though I said I wouldn't).

*Scrapbook, make cards!

*Bake, bake, bake - there's a LONG list of things I wanna bake, but has no clue which should come first, as usual!

*Clean the bathrooms (I HATE this job, waiting for visitors to come, so I'll scramble to get 'em sparkling clean! ;P ---Drop bys don't count...so Smartie Pants don't even of just popping by and expect sparkling clean bathrooms! ;P)

*Iron the clothes (I HATE this too!)

*Upload photos to Costco.

*Organize my secretary desk.

*Organize the kids' toys.

*Organize my kids and husband!!??? :P --- hahhahaha, I'm just going nuts here! lol :)

I'm sure I'm missing some thing else.... Oh yes!

*Clean, clear and organize my car and my darling husband's car(nope he doesn't clean his car, usually I feel so disgusted that I just HAVE to clean it for him--- what a nice wife I am right? Let's have fried rice again tonight!!hhahhaha)!!!

*Return stuff to the stores (this is something HE cannot stand me! :P I take full advantage of the return policy here in US, it drives him nuts!! ;P)

*Not to forget, updating my BLOG!!! :P

Time to cook dinner and go yell at Yesmin to take her shower! Talk to u all later...hope no one is as confused as I am....or should I hope that you all are too! :P

I'm slacking too!!! (KT, KT,KT! ;P)

I know I haven't been blogging for awhile...thanks for the reminder Smartie Pants! :) All those eating of Turkey is just making me soooo lazy! :P I'll get back on track soon....I hope... :P

I ALMOST HAD AN HEART ATTACK!!! :/

I'm fine, don't worry...nothing wrong with me medically. U see, Thursdays are my days to volunteer in my daughter's classroom, making photocopies, correcting the kids' work...etc. So, as usual, after Yesmin went on the bus to school, Lucas and I get home and get him ready for his preschool. I drop him at school, then drive to Yesmin's school to volunteer, and pick him up at 11:15am.

When I got there, it was about 9:38am. Met with the teacher who gave me and the other mom instructions on what she wants to get done ~ which was basically correcting some paper work and record them. So, I went on doing my job. After a while, I took a look at my watch which I have not been wearing for a week or more. 11:18!!! I literally JUMP up (everyone around there stopped to look what on earth this crazy woman is doing? ;P), stack the pile of books, hand it to the other mom and said, "I'm SO late, I need to pick my son up from school!!"...all the time thinking "HOW COULD I DO THAT TO HIM?! HOW CAN I NOT PAY ATTENTION TO THE TIME? WHY DIDN'T I SET THE ALARM ON MY CELL PHONE TO REMIND ME, LIKE I USUALLY DO??? WHERE THE HELL DID THE TIME GO???"...and all the time thinking what a BAD MOM I am, to be THIS late (though it takes only 10 minutes to get from Yesmin's school to his, 10 minutes IS A L-O-N-G time for a 4 year old!!!). I HAVE NEVER been this late for either kids...NEVER. At most I was late by 30 seconds - a minute between me walking through the front door to their school building and the teacher opening the classroom door to dismiss the class! WHAT HAVE I DONE?? I know the teacher is fine staying with him, no doubt about that, but how disappointed he would be when I get there???

As I was walking away from the class, I pulled out my cell phone wanting to call his teacher and let them know I'm on my way. I stopped right away! IT WAS ONLY 10:18am!! I HAVE 45 minutes MORE before I actually HAVE to leave!!! D-U-H!!!!

All because of the daylight saving we had on Nov 2nd! We sort of gain an hour....so if it was to be before Nov 2nd, I would be late. But now, today...I AM NOT LATE (stupid me)! We changed all the clock at home, and even in the car...but I've been forgetting to wear my watch, and had ASSUMED my watch was programmed to change the time by itself (it's a Casio BabyG, my old Seiko Spoon watch was programmed to changed by itself when it was daylight saving). Sure felt like an IDIOT, but I AM SO GRATEFUL that I WASN'T LATE!!! Phew.

Blogging

Obviously I've informed a whole bunch of friends about me blogging....and most of the response was "wah, you even got time to blog ah?" (that's our Malaysian slang of talking --- all the wahs and ahs and lohs). I feel very lucky to be a stay-at-home mom, I get to see my kids grow, take their first steps and I get to experience all their "first times"...and I also get to "keep and eye" on them! That being said, this job HAS a lot of pressure too! We all want our kids to grow up to be a responsible, well mannered, good, ...etc person. Sending them out to the world, I have to constantly be aware of their behavior, the friends they chose to hang out with...etc.

YES, without a doubt, I have LOTS of hobbies...and thank God, blogging is free! Anyway, let's just say that my blog is my "weekly/monthly report", like those of you who work in the office. Just that, my report doesn't have a dateline! ;) So, I am very lucky and I am very thankful for that! =)
